Cars in Germany's Town Found Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Police reported they were notified by a individual who discovered a vehicle in Hanau marked with red-colored liquid

Around 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Police state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.

The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.

Police then found multiple other marked vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials report initial examinations suggest the substance was probably human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; authorities are currently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they added.

Local authorities said they were trying "to solve the case" and have appealed to the community for details.

An important political figure commented the vandalism left him speechless and had to be solved rapidly.

"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the death of nine people by a shooter focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
